Just finished Susan Atkins' book and quite frankly I am confused about it. After finishing it I put it down and thought, she doesn't really explain anything about what happened in '69 and certainly has no idea as to why it happened. She then goes on to say how she became a 'born again' Christian and how it has helped her come to terms with her past. Sorry, but I remain sceptical about her reasons for becoming a Christian. It smacks to me of guilt. She felt at peace with herself after giving her life to Jesus. Her way of coping with what she was involved in?

Yes, I don't have much interest to read such books by the Family members. Just, I would expect to be full of self serving lies, especially where it was released not relatively that long after she was imprisoned. Maybe at some point though, I will read it.

I haven't read it in ages. The main thing I remember is the feeling that she didn't seem to really know why the murders happened.

In Susan's own book she tells how she found Satan on her own before she met Charlie. As soon as she left home she hooked up with two excons long before she met Charlie. It is quite obvious Susan was headed to prison with or without Charlie's help The first half of her book is all you need to read. The second half is where she found God. She stops talking about what she did after that. I found that interesting..

it seems like susan and especially tex tend to hide behind their faith. good on them for becoming Christians but it seems to me they have the attitude, "well God forgave me so why can't you". whereas i dont get that feeling from Leslie or even bruce davis. tex seems to still be quite proud of his notoriety even though his faith seems quite strong.
