Wow Bert, that is quite a find!
By the way, Bert sent me a great bunch of photos a while back that I've been very lazy uploading. What is painted on that rock (something about "Russian")?

Yes, there were words painted on a giant rock. If I'm right it said ‘Red Russia’. To the left of it it said "Empire". I didn’t manage to decipher all the vague writings myself, but someone on the old forum did.
Now why would someone paint such words on a rock in the middle of the desert?

I'm pretty sure that the author later found out... somewhere or other I believe I read something by him in which he muses over that very passage, realizing what he'd seen.

Is this rock visable from the old horse trails? I would think Charlie would prohibit signs being seen from the highway. Charlie even forbade the Family from being seen from the road.

As time went on in The Family, they were increasingly isolated. Like, according to Houten, they were only permitted to listen to the Beatles, the Moody Blues, and Manson's music.

We hear the isolation angle. But we also hear Manson traveled just before Tate-LaBianca to recruit new members. A paradox?
I've heard elsewhere of the Moody Blues popularity with the Family. Oddly, we never hear of any secret messages, etc. Any thoughts on this?

maybe it had more value that the biggest band in the world was the band "sending Manson messages".
